A Valentine’s Day Breakfast Inspiration

February 7, 2016

Happy Sunday!

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and my favorite way to celebrate it is with a sweet and healthy Valentine’s morning breakfast in bed! I love the idea of getting all dressed up for Valentine’s dinner, but there’s also something incredibly romantic about just waking up together, staying in bed for a couple extra hours, and treating my hubby to a special breakfast.

So, on the menu today we have 3 super easy and (somewhat) healthy breakfast recipes plus a bonus printable for your special swolemate 😉 Buon appetito! Continue Reading

A Winter Interval Training To Get The Burn Running

February 3, 2016

Hi all!

Winter is in full gas with cold and short days combined with a lot of calories. #iknowyouhadthathotchocolate But it’s too early in the year to give up on new year resolutions, so we better focus on our trainings and aim to eat clean at least 80% of the time.

This new year started for me with quite a few new clients who love running. So, even if I’m not the best runner, I’m trying to improve my skills and my stamina to be a better coach to them. Today I’m sharing an interval training that I did myself to check and train my aerobic and muscles resistance. Continue Reading

My Beloved Banana Pancakes (Vegan)

January 31, 2016

Happy Sunday!

If there is one thing that I take super serious is our Sunday pancakes tradition. Sundays sans pancakes are just not the same. Well, if I must be completely honest, I love pancakes any given day of the week. Most weeks I prepare them ahead to have them for breakfast the whole week long. When this doesn’t happen, it must happen on Sundays.

Since Sundays are also a day we like to work out together, mostly doing Pilates or functional training, it’s also important for us to have a healthy breakfast that will fuel us through our workout and not leave us feeling sluggish (like a lot of sweet pancake recipes might do). These are by far the most delicious pancakes I’ve ever tasted. They’re simple, sweet, light, fluffy, vegan and guilt-free. They have no white flour, canola oil, sugar or butter! The sweetness comes from using bananas in the batter and the traditional white flour is replaced by oatmeal and whole-grain flour (gluten-free if you prefer).

Buon appetito!

My New Kitchen Joker: The One and Only Avocado Toast

January 24, 2016

Happy Sunday!

As I have mentioned on Instagram this week, things are changing around here. Things are getting busier than usual, which is why the blog has been on a more slower note than before. The thing is, I got back to the workforce. I had been taking a somewhat extended vacation since Spring and now I’m back to an 8-17 job. As much as it is super exciting, it leaves me with a lot less time to do hobby/creative things. The blog will go on…but, when I find the time. At this point I have no idea how often that is, so bear with me and stick around! Continue Reading

Hiking in Sardinia

January 13, 2016

Welcome back to our fitness posts and happy new year!

I hope you enjoyed the holidays like we did with family, friends and good, tasty food. We had a very nice vacation and of course we did our best to also stay active. Right after Christmas we did a great and unforgettable hike into the heart of Barbagia region, in the wild and beautiful Sardinian mountains. We started this hiking excursion near the village of Oliena to end it near the Su Gologone Waterfall, right next door to where we celebrated our wedding last year.

Even if it was cold, even if Carol wasn’t at her best (back pain) and even if we ate (maybe) too much the days before, there were no excuses! Hikes and long walks are an amazing way to keep healthy and active with friends and family, especially when you are away from home and from your go-to gym. It’s particularly helpful around the holiday season, so that not all quality time is spent around a table (aka feasting). Continue Reading

Cold And Flu Figther Smoothie

January 10, 2016

Happy Sunday!

Ending 2015 and kicking off 2016 with a cold was not something that Tore and I planned!  But, with the whole family getting sick, we were bound to get sick as well. This week things are finally looking a bit healthier for us. Since I love a good green smoothie, I decided to adapt my usual protein-rich recipes for a cold & flu fighting combo. Plus, when you’re feeling a bit under the weather and weak, an easy to make smoothie can be the perfect snack. I love that it takes me less than five minutes to prepare it.

Here’s my game plan: Continue Reading

Christmas Yoga For A Happy Holiday Season

December 23, 2015

Happy Wednesday!

As much as the holiday season if full of joy and reasons to be merry, it can also be a time of stress, with all the holiday parties, family gathering and let’s not even get started with the gift buying. My family is huge, so you can imagine the amount of gifts that are involved and all the preparation that goes into them. Today I’m presenting you with a series of Christmas Yoga poses that can help you alleviate some of the tension that pops up this time of year. It’s like yoga with a twist of some holiday sparkle to bring a bit of festive spirit into your practice.

As I have already mentioned before, I’m not a yoga instructor so I’m just sharing some poses that I do in my practice, from the several yoga studios I have tried in the past. This is just a festive spin on my yoga routine that can be great for calming the mind when you’re freaking out about having enough time to prepare a feast for the whole family or after storming around the shops to find the perfect gift for your significant other.

So put on some Christmas tunes, roll out your mat and have fun! Wearing a Santa hat or a festive sweater may help too. Enjoy! Continue Reading

Healthy Ideas For A Festive Christmas Dinner

December 21, 2015

Happy Monday dear friends!

I’m so happy that so many of you are loving the cookie recipes posted last week. It comes to show how you can be healthy and still have awesome tasting food. I know the holidays can be so intense, eating-wise as well. We always spend Christmas with our Italian family and it’s such a huge feast that it could put anyone in a food comma. But, I guess that’s true for most families, regardless of the country they are from.

Just before Christmas I wanted to share with you some of my favorite festive vegan recipes. Not one, not two, but three recipes: Christmas Lentil Roast, Stuffed Pumpkin with Persian Quinoa and Maple and Cranberry Brussels Sprouts.  So yummy! I find these to be awesome recipes for a holiday feast, quite clean, that will make your belly happy but won’t get you in nap mode right after. But, if you still feel like it, by all means, nap away! Tis the season to be jolly, merry and napping!

Buon Appetito e Buon Natale! Continue Reading

Christmas Baking: Healthy(ish) Speculoos Cookies

December 18, 2015

Happy Fri-YAY dear friends!

I can hardly believe that Christmas is now a week away. Where has the year gone?

Today, instead of sharing my weekly favorites I thought I’d give you a bonus recipe on healthy cookie alternatives. If you’re in any way like me, you go into full baking mode around the holidays. I find it hard to have (completely) healthy cookies that also look pretty and festive. For the rest of the year I don’t mind ugly cookies, but on Christmas I want the whole shabang! Continue Reading
